GREAT !! Aug 20, 2010
I now have three of these canteens. They hold so much and are still surprisingly lightweight and very easy to carry as we commute into NYC. We also have a small fridge at work but these babies are just perfect. It's amazing how little space they take up, considering their
unique shape. I love all of the colors, we have a gray, this blue, and mine is the red. :-)
Set in my ways Aug 13, 2010 Exactly what I was looking for. Being in the military have grown accustom to MIL-SPEC canteens but wanted something that I can see through, use every day and BPA free. Something I can use while not doing boarding's and save my boarding equipment. Still fits the metal cup if you choose to. Not as rugged as the military version, but serving on a ship does just fine. The outside of the canteen was bowed in a bit when I received it, but works itself out with use. Also corrects itself when filled. Sturdy enough for camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. Just a note, it came with a baby blue colored cap. Not like the black cap in the picture, but I bought it for it's use, not looks.

OK At Best Jun 17, 2010 The walls of my two Oasis Canteens are soda pop thin. Probably a bad batch but...? I might as well be using a pop bottle for water; it's definitely a lot cheaper.
I don't like all the little protrusions & notches around the neck. I've never seen anything like this on a Nalgene product. Why the little arm sticking out to catch on something? Is it to hold the loop on? There's notches in the ring around the neck - why? Just another place for dirt to get into. It just does not make sense.
Tritan - I don't know about this new stuff. Lexan was GREAT when Nalgene started using it but this new stuff...? All I can say is that when a company today says its' product has been improved it probably means it has improved their profit not the product. Until further testing I put Tritan down at the bottom with Windows VISTA & Polypropylene plastic that is used in everything today; it's OK for some things but...
At best this is OK. I feel it is a waste of money when I can get a genuine military canteen that is better made. Except for the Oasis being translucent it is useless for serious use.
Whatever happened to Made in USA meaning a quality product? I've used Nalgene for over 20 years and I am probably not going to use them anymore.

Expensive but better than the original canteens. CHUG! Jun 01, 2010 Somehow I'm happy I spent $14 for something you can buy at a surplus store for $3. Compared to my old USMC canteens, they're very similar. The Nalgene cap is better, it's clear(ish), but it fits into my canteen pouch (and canteen cup) just like the original. Compared to the wide mouth bottles, the canteen is more ergonomic in the hand, is easier to drink while walking or driving, and triggers that canteen CHUG impulse. The only things better with the wide mouth are the ease of adding ice or mix powders, price, and the accessories if you're into that type of thing. The wide mouth also fits in my truck cup holder where the canteen doesn't quite make it. I'm drinking from the canteen right now and I should elaborate more on the cap. Its much smoother than the military canteen caps, you can spin it off with one finger and the retention strap is long enough to hold the cap and bottle in your hand while drinking (you can hold the bottom of the canteen if you want, it's that long), and the cap isn't heavy enough to tip over the empty bottle while its hanging. I really cannot emphasize the CHUG factor enough--I like it so much better than the wide mouth bottles, even though its not hard lexan.

My favorite new drinking bottle Dec 14, 2009 I can't say enough good things about this canteen; I love it. I bought two more after I received the first one. It's the perfect size and shape for me. It's strong but lightweight, very easy to use and hold plenty of liquid. I use it everywhere; around the house, at work, walking my dogs, etc. The only way Nalgene could improve this product is to add an insulated sleeve with a shoulder strap or belt loop.
