My favorite new drinking bottle Dec 14, 2009 I can't say enough good things about this canteen; I love it. I bought two more after I received the first one. It's the perfect size and shape for me. It's strong but lightweight, very easy to use and hold plenty of liquid. I use it everywhere; around the house, at work, walking my dogs, etc. The only way Nalgene could improve this product is to add an insulated sleeve with a shoulder strap or belt loop.

Modern Canteen Dec 11, 2009 This is a great item. This, coupled with a good belt and a clip type canteen holder, is working great. I've always wanted to use a canteen belt, holder and canteen rig in conjunction with my backpacking and day hiking. The regular plastic bottles were holding me back. Now I get the bpa free clear poly performance and the canteen convenience.

good twist on dependable item Dec 05, 2009 I'm ex army from the way back (the 80's) and my life now is surrounded by the latest, greatest, technical fabrics and lightest, what not's...and I'm guilty of trying a lot, and even migrating to a few. I'm still a bit of a throwback with my old woolrich shirt and I still use a lot of the military gear I used (gulp) more than 20 years ago! (geez!)
WHY I still use my canteen system: the stove, cup, and canteen - the little tablets if I ever need them (Katydyn base camp - wow! - never pump again!:)
I like the compactness of it, I've used this system all over the globe.
The trax bars work fine, but so does a simple twig fire by a stream to boil some water quickly for a cup of coffee or a soup packet, etc...
It fits on a belt, it's short comparted to a 32oz. "typical" nalgene.
It's a comfort thing, but I like the narrow mouth better than the large.
WHY THIS ONE - well I doubt I really have a lot to fear with "BPA" from my military canteens from the surplus store...but I guess that may have something to do with it. probably a better reason is the see thru part. sloshing is great, but seeing the water level is better - especially if I'm boiling "2 cups" or something for some noodles - it's easy to see where the level is, where i need to guess it to based on 32oz capacity, etc...
I have this one. I still have an empty backup canteen in my "one bag" for the canoe. I still have the family's "go-bags" packed with GI surplus canteens. But this one IS nice - seems to be a nice piece of kit of me - lets see how it holds up to use over time - but I'm happy overall.

Good alternative water source Sep 14, 2009 Great alternative to the old military canteen. To keep the water cold I actually insert it in an old Army canteen pouch. The cap attachment is a bit flimsy but otherwise this is a great water container for camping or even the gym.
