Solid Bottle Feb 02, 2010
By Tradecraft The Guyot Designs Stainless Steel Water Bottle, The Backpacker model, is a heavy duty solid water bottle that will hold 32 ounces of water. The bottle is made of 18/10 surgical grade stainless steel. You have the ability to boil water if needed provided that you remove the cap and lanyard. Remember, the bottle will be hot so use something such as a folded bandana or gloves to remove the bottle from the fire or you will get burned. The GSI Outdoor Glacier Bottle Cup / Pot - 18fl oz nests very well in the bottom of this bottle making it a nice system to use. I then put it in Maxpeditions' 10" X 4" Bottle Holder.
This bottle is sturdy so it weighs more than aluminum or plastic but I believe that it is also much more durable. It comes back to the cost/benefit ratio of gear. What is it worth to you to have the extra weight vs. a durable bottle that you can use to boil water?
It has never leaked from the top and this bottle has held up very well. I recommend the Guyot Designs Stainless Steel Water Bottle, The Backpacker model.

Great single walled stainless quart container Jul 05, 2011
By A. Doss Nalgene has two variants of the stainless steel single walled (non-insulated) container. This version, has the tapered bottom. The other version, is more cylindrical.
The stainless is very solid. The lid screws on tight and there are no leaks. The cord is handy to carry and to keep from losing the lid. You can loosen the cord and remove the lid (if you're dishwashing or boiling water in it).
We keep the single-walled unit in the car and on camping trips, as, in an emergency, you can remove the lid and boil water in this thing (the metal will get hot, so don't pick it up bare handed). Plus, the quart size is perfect for purification tablets.
As it's single-walled and non-insulated, it does 'sweat" condensation with cold liquids and is cold to the touch. Conversely, hot liquids, heat up the metal, making it hard to hold.
If you want an every day driver bottle for the car, that doesn't sweat or heat up too much, get the double-walled / insulated version. If you want a "canteen" you can cook with in an emergency, then look no further. There are less lid options than the "Kanteen" brand, but I love the fact that these just don't leak.
Always good to have multiple forms of "container" in a survival or camping situation. These look great and have a great number of uses for a camping trip or a survival kit.

Perfect Bottle Sep 20, 2011
By humantiger I love this bottle. I wanted a bottle that I could boil water in, (single walled, stainless steel) as well as keep water in it without the water tasting funky. I've tried the Kleen Kanteen and wasn't happy with the lid (you have to really crank it on to keep it from leaking and there is no connection to the bottle so you can lose the lid). The Kleen Kanteen was also twice as expensive.:( To keep the water cold I keep it in a Maxpedition 10X4 bottle holder. I still wonder if I would have been happier with the larger bottle though.
The best you can buy for a camping/survival water bottle Jan 22, 2012
By Mark Timlin The King of Nalgene water bottles.
Fits into a GSI stainless steel cup.
Holds a hell of a lot of beverage.
Can cook in it.
Thick walled and tough as nails.
Would definetly recommend this quality product.

Disappointed!!!!!!!! Dec 21, 2011
By Preparing Extremely disappointed. I thought I was fortunate to get one of the few guyot water bottles left. But when it came, there was a small hole at the bottom. I sent it back for a refund (no problems there), but still disappointing. I hope they don't send this bottle to someone else who doesn't try it out and just stores it as part of their Bug Out Bag system as I was doing. I washed it as usual, but didn't notice the leak until I tried to use it. Imagine me in a bug out situation with a leaky bottle. Always test your equipment is my advice!
